Joe and Sierra Smithers, together with Sierra’s mom Jan, own and operate Josies Farm. Joe and Sierra were married in 2012 and have been best friends ever since. For their 1 year anniversary Joe bought Sierra her first camera and bet her that she wouldn’t learn how to use it. Well, a year later she was filing the paperwork for her first photography company and a year after that had quit her full time job at the hospital to follow her creative passions. Fast forward to 2021 when Joe texted Sierra the realtor listing for “The Farm” and soon after they had a contract on this little slice of Illinois heaven.
Joe’s full time job is with the Springfield Fire Department where he has served since 2010. When he is not on shift, Joe will be finding reasons to use his tractor, doing small projects for Sierra, or mowing. Lots and lots of mowing…
Jan is who came up with the name Josies, a mash up of Joe and Sies, Sierra’s childhood nickname. Hence why there is not an apostrophe in Josies Farm. Jan is retired from being the CEO of the Lincoln Area YMCA and now works in the kitchen at Williamsville High School. When Jan isn’t busy laughing at the goats, you can find her whipping up tasty meals for Joe and Sierra, or weed eating one of the many fence lines around the farm.
